How to win

Four things that decide whether your European launch works

Based on managing 30+ brands across European marketplaces — here's what separates the brands that grow from the ones that stall.

01.

Win the Buy Box before spending on ads

Advertising with poor Buy Box ownership is wasted money. Unauthorised sellers and channel conflicts erode your Buy Box share, push up acquisition costs, and suppress organic ranking. Get your channel house in order first.

Thorne went from 49% to 91% Buy Box ownership in under 10 months with Pattern.
02.

Localise more than just the language

Translation alone isn't localisation. European consumers expect local currency, compliance certifications, market-appropriate imagery, and culturally relevant descriptions. Listings that feel imported consistently underperform.

Pattern handles listing localisation across 11 languages and 12 countries from our European offices.
03.

Simplify fulfilment — one location, not many

Managing shipments to 40+ Amazon fulfilment centres across multiple markets is operationally crushing. Pattern consolidates everything through Northampton, UK and Wroclaw, Poland — removing placement fees and chargebacks in one move.

99.8% on-time shipment. 2 days warehouse to Amazon. No inbound placement fees.
04.

Sort regulatory compliance before you launch

EU regulations around VAT registration, product certification, GDPR, and marketplace compliance are stricter than the US. Brands that don't address this upfront face listing suspensions and delayed revenue.

Pattern reactivated 11 non-compliant ASINs for Weider and launched 5 new products on Amazon DE.

FAQ

Questions brands ask us most

Straight answers on what it actually takes to expand from the US to UK and European marketplaces.

Do I need a separate Amazon account for each European country?

No. Amazon's European Unified Account lets you manage listings across the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, and Belgium from a single account. You'll need VAT registration in each country where you hold inventory — which Pattern's compliance team handles as part of onboarding.

How does Pattern's European fulfilment work?

You ship to Pattern. We receive inventory at our centres in Northampton, UK and Wroclaw, Poland, handle all prep and labelling, and inbound to Amazon and other marketplaces — eliminating placement fees, chargebacks, and shortages. 2–3 days to Amazon from the UK, 4–6 from Poland.

Which markets should we prioritise first?

For most US brands, the UK comes first — shared language, familiar consumer behaviour, no currency friction. Germany is typically second (€86.6B ecommerce in 2025). After that: fashion brands often target Zalando, health and home brands typically go France and Netherlands.

How long does it take to launch in a new European market?

Plan for 6–12 weeks to full launch on Amazon, accounting for VAT registration, compliance, listing creation, and inbound shipping. Adding marketplaces like OTTO or Zalando typically takes 4–8 additional weeks per platform.

We already sell on Amazon UK independently. Can Pattern take over?

Yes — one of the most common scenarios. Whether you're a 1P vendor transitioning to 3P, or a 3P seller looking to professionalise operations and advertising, Pattern can audit your account, identify gaps, and build a transition plan that protects continuity.

Does Pattern manage advertising as well as operations?

Yes. Pattern's managed service covers marketplace advertising, content creation, listing optimisation, fulfilment, and compliance from a single account team. We don't split ops and advertising — because the two are commercially interdependent.
